Hermit Pass between Italy and Switzerland

Track made on a two days plan because of transfers and the long climb.
DAY 1. Reaching Varenna by train and to Menaggio by boat. We will ride the beautiful long lake of Como for 14km until Dongo, where the long climb starts. Always on asphalt we touch Garzeno, with amazing views on Valtellina and Legnone. We will continue to passo Giovo where the road is more dirty, cilmbs more severe, but the more savage enviroment will regenerate us to arrive to rifugio San Jorio, where, availability permitting, we can spend the night.
DAY 2. Behind the shelter a steep ramp will let us go over 2.000metres at passo San Jorio, where a church was a hermit monk's refuge. The pass has been a crucial point for commercial interchanges of metals between the Ducati of North Italiy and the Cantone dei Grigioni. Here the orizon will touch the edge of Lago Maggiore in Switzerland.
The long but never predictable dirty road descent starts here, finishing in Bellinzona. The red signage will never leave us untill destination. It's a very long sector made by single trail all to enjoy in every shade. Once finished the discent let's have a look at the lake, but we do not suggest any shopping in Helvetian land. Medium prices will immediately bring us back to reality, but all those amazing views in two riding days, will forever remain printed in our minds.
